Family Lapland Holidays

The magic of the northern lights, beautiful wild experiences with huskies through snowy winter wonderlands, and of course, being the official home of Santa Claus makes Lapland the perfect destination for an unforgettable family holiday.

Head to this wild region of northern Finland, one of the most sparsely populated places in Europe, and discover snow-covered pine forests, frozen lakes, vast fells and luxurious, glass-roofed cabin accommodation. The towns we promote our Lapland adventures in are specifically geared towards making your time in the Arctic truly comfortable, meaning you can feel at ease taking small children and elderly relatives.

Spend your days exploring the wilderness on husky safaris, reindeer rides, or on a unique day out for the kids meeting Santa in real life! And at the end of a day in the cold air, head to your cosy glass-roofed cabin, where you can drink in the sight of the Aurora Borealis flickering overhead.

So whether it’s a northern lights holiday in Finland or a Christmas adventure in Lapland you’re after, there is something for everyone in this spectacular corner of the world.

Family Adventures in a Winter Wonderland

There are few places on earth that can combine real wilderness, stunning natural scenery and harsh conditions whilst retaining the kind of comfort and luxury that make them suitable for a family holiday.

In Lapland however, you can enjoy the incredible landscape of pine forest and open fells, the wintery conditions and once-in-a-lifetime views of the northern lights, all whilst being sure that there are endless activities for the kids to enjoy and a warm, cosy place to stay at the end of each day.

Whether you choose to head to the far north in Saariselkä, to the official home of Santa Claus in Rovaniemi, or for the perfect place to combine a Lapland adventure with a skiing holiday in Levi, all our Lapland packages include fantastic family activities and glass-roofed accommodation, making your stay in Finland truly memorable.

Where to go on a family holiday in Lapland

Levi, Saariselkä and Rovaniemi are all places ready-made for families to visit this truly wild corner of Europe.

In particular, Rovaniemi is the “official” hometown of Santa Claus and fully geared toward bringing some of that Christmas magic to life. To get to Rovaniemi, you would need to search for flights to the airport of the same name. As a place it is a little larger and more commercial than Levi or Saariselkä, but it is probably the most suited to very young children.

For families who want to combine a Lapland adventure with some skiing, Levi is your best bet as it boasts the best slopes in the region. For Levi, fly to Kittila airport where on our trips you will be picked up and taken directly to your beautiful accommodation.

Finally, for any families looking for serious wilderness and the best snowscapes year-round, head to the far north for Saariselkä. Pick ups for these packages are from Ivalo airport, and your accommodation is much the same as Levi, in heated glass-roofed cabins under the pine trees.

One thing is for sure, wherever you go for your family holiday in Lapland, you’re sure to find stunning landscapes, and exciting activities to create the experience of a lifetime for the kids.

What activities can my family enjoy in Lapland?

Whether you’re on the hunt for an active adventure holiday in Lapland, or for the ultimate Lapland Christmas experience, or perhaps even a romantic break in the far north of Finland, this beautiful snow-blanketed region has all bases covered for an incredible time spent with friends, family or a partner.

Explore the vast fells, frozen rivers and white-out forests by snowmobile or snow-shoe, making the most of Lapland’s seemingly endless expanse of wilderness by heading out to explore with epic active adventures.

On a family holiday, the region makes the perfect place to visit thanks to it’s links with Santa Claus, thereby making Lapland the ideal Christmas holiday destination, with activities to meet the big man himself often built in to family holiday packages.

It’s also a magical place to visit with your partner. On a romantic holiday in Lapland, you can explore the wilderness together by day on husky safaris or by reindeer-pulled sleigh, then by night gaze at the Northern Lights from the comfort of your glass-roofed Aurora cabin.
