    Poppy J

    Dirk

"We visited Marrakesh, Ait Benhaddou, Zagora, camel trip to the dessert, Agdz and back to Marrakesh. Our driver was friendly, gave us advice on which restaurants to avoid and which to visit, and of course driving safely! He made some suggestions on sights that we could visit when commuting from 1 location to another. Very friendly people and such a great trip!"

A mother daughter trip couldn’t have been more magical. The 4 day trip from Marrakech to Merzouga covering caring varied landscapes was simply awesome. Mohammad, our guide and driver was simply the best. He was pleasant, polite, conversant, engaging, respectful, friendly , considerate, perceptive and simply great fun to enjoy the journey with. The desert camp was the icing on the cake. The camel ride, miles and miles of pristine sand dunes, The

Simply superb. Was very well organised and our driver was great. Too many highlights to write here... had everything in it... deserts, mountains, camels, tents, rivers, gorges, on road and off road routes, villages... one particular highlight was having lunch with our host's family...one of the hotels wasn't great but the host was happy to ownership of that and make it as comfortable as possible.

Hamid, a local to Merzouga, led the tour, and I cannot rate him highly enough. He drove long distances to get from Marrakech to the Sahara, stopping for the most amazing photo opportunities, pointing out little businesses on the way that provided rose water, argan oil and fossil artefacts, and was always ready to answer our questions. He formed a good connection with my children and truly showed them what life was like in Morocco. The accommodati

Because I have been taking photographs for over 60 years I was not sure exactly what to expect as well as how much I would actually learn, from my week in Morocco. I need not to have concerned myself as tutor Darren was marvellous (very knowledgeable and a nice chap too!). I learnt a lot about using 'Lightroom' the photo manipulating software (plus other things) and because of Darren's help in 'opening doors' to many local people I was able to co

Morocco leading sustainability in North Africa

Morocco has emerged as a leader in sustainable tourism across North Africa, implementing bold initiatives to preserve its diverse landscapes and cultural heritage. In 2016, the country made headlines by enacting one of the world’s most comprehensive plastic bag bans, dramatically reducing plastic waste across its breathtaking deserts, mountains, and coastlines.

The government’s “Vision 2020” tourism strategy prioritizes eco-friendly development, with substantial investments in renewable energy—including the Noor Ouarzazate Solar Complex, one of the world’s largest solar installations. Traditional practices like water conservation in ancient khettara irrigation systems and sustainable architecture using local materials continue to inspire modern eco-lodges throughout the country.

Many Moroccan communities have embraced tourism cooperatives that ensure economic benefits remain local, while cultural preservation initiatives safeguard traditional crafts and knowledge. Travelers can support these efforts through our trips which prioritise authentic local accommodations, locally-guided experiences, and visits to certified sustainable accommodations that honour Morocco’s commitment to responsible tourism.

    FAQs

    Where should I fly into?
    Toggle FAQ
There are a few airports you could fly into in Morocco, for most of our trips we'd recommend Marrakech as that is where a lot of our trips start. You could also fly into Essaouira or Agadir. If you'd like more information about flights or to book flights with us for your trip, please get in touch!
What should I wear in Morocco?
    Toggle FAQ
What you wear to Morocco will depend on where you're visiting. If you're visiting cities like Marrakech or Fes then it is important to remember it is a Muslim majority country and to wear more modest clothing to any cultural or religious sites, we'd recommend taking a shawl that you can use as both a scarf and a cover for your shoulders! If you're visiting the desert be sure to take a face covering (again a shawl would work). It also gets very cold in the desert at night so bring something a bit warmer for the nights!
When is the best time to travel?
    Toggle FAQ
When you travel will depend on what you're travelling for. If you're hoping to go surfing or hiking then travelling in Spring (March-May) is ideal conditions for that. For more great tips like this you can scroll up to our 'best time to visit' section above. You can also always just ask us on chat, by phone or email!
What currency is used in Morocco?
    Toggle FAQ
The official currency of Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD) - 1 GBP to 12 MAD (approx as per 8/4/2024). Please Note: Hosts will use variety of currencies - GBP, USD, €, MAD. Cash or Card: Major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard) are accepted in most tourist establishments, hotels, and high-end restaurants. However, in more rural or smaller areas, cash is still king. It’s always a good idea to carry some cash with you.
Should I be haggling in the markets?
    Toggle FAQ
Bargaining is a traditional and expected part of shopping in Morocco, particularly in markets (souks). Vendors will often quote a high price to start, and it’s part of the experience to haggle and settle on a price that feels fair to both parties. Approach bargaining with a friendly attitude and patience — it’s seen as a skill and a fun exchange, rather than something adversarial.
What important dates should I be aware of?
    Toggle FAQ
Morocco is a predominantly Muslim country, and Islam plays a central role in daily life and traditions. Visitors should be mindful of the religious practices and cultural customs that reflect this. Prayer Times: There are five daily prayer times in Islam, and they are observed across the country. While you don’t need to participate, it’s important to be respectful during these times. Many shops and businesses close briefly for prayers, and it’s courteous to remain quiet or avoid loud activities during these moments. Ramadan: If you visit during the holy month of Ramadan (which changes annually based on the Islamic lunar calendar), be aware that many Moroccans fast from dawn until sunset.
