This five-day Moroccan journey leads you through a landscape that changes as fluidly as light on desert sand. You begin in Marrakech, where palaces, madrassas and souks weave together in a kaleidoscope of colour, sound and scent. From there, the road lifts you into the High Atlas, across mountain passes that seem to stretch possibility itself, before descending into valleys carved by wind, water and time.

Along the way you meet the people who inhabit these landscapes, a Berber family shaping clay in Skoura, musicians whose Gnawa rhythms ripple across the desert, traders bringing their goods to market in Rissani. Each encounter deepens the sense that this region is alive with stories, both ancient and everyday.

The desert becomes the heart of the journey: a slow camel trek into the glowing dunes of Erg Chebbi, a luxury camp lit by lanterns and stars, a sunrise that splashes the sands in molten gold. Even after you leave the Sahara behind, its stillness seems to follow you through the palm-lined Draa Valley and into the cinematic calm of Ouarzazate.

By the time you wander through the earthen towers of Ait Ben Haddou and return to Marrakech, the journey feels like a tapestry, threads of culture, nature and tradition woven together with the warmth of Moroccan hospitality. It’s an experience shaped not only by landscapes but by the people who welcome you, guide you and share their world with you.

To embrace the full depth of today’s experience, you will need to book a morning arrival flight into Marrakech; the afternoon holds a rich tapestry of discoveries, and timings are tight to savour it all with ease.

Your driver welcomes you and takes you to your riad, where you pause just long enough to drop your bags before stepping into the living heartbeat of the medina. Your local guide shapes the tour around your interests — slowing down where your curiosity lingers, steering you towards hidden corners or architectural marvels depending on what speaks to you.

The Bahia Palace glows with intricate stucco and carved cedar; the Ben Youssef Madrasa stands serene and geometric; the Koutoubia Tower anchors the skyline with its quiet authority. You weave through the souks, where colours spill across every surface and spices curl through the air like unanswered questions.

Entrance tickets to attractions are not included. Most sites can be arranged on the day, but if you wish to include Jardin Majorelle, this must be pre-booked online by you. Please let us know in advance if you secure tickets so your guide can shape the timing of your day accordingly.

Dinner is not included tonight. Your guide can suggest wonderful places to try, or you may choose to lose yourself in the evening streets and discover something entirely your own.

Marrakech to Dades Valley: Across the High Atlas

After breakfast, the road begins to rise and curve as you leave Marrakech behind. The Atlas Mountains open before you in shifting shades of rust, olive and slate, each turn revealing another improbable village perched against the rock. At Tizi N’Tichka you pause, letting the wind and the wide horizon wash over you.

Descending towards Ouarzazate, “Morocco’s Hollywood”, the landscape grows drier, more cinematic. In Skoura, you share time with a local pottery-making family — hands deep in clay, shaping something simple yet memorable. The journey carries you through the Rose Valley, where thousands of fragrant pink blooms are harvested each spring for rosewater and traditional beauty products.

By the time you reach the Dades Valley, the light softens and the colours of the mountains deepen to warm apricot and red. Your riad welcomes you with calm, mountain air and the promise of a peaceful evening. Dinner is included tonight, served in the comfort of your riad — a chance to unwind, reflect, and taste the flavours of the valley.

Dramatic Gorges and Desert Camps

A new morning, a new valley. You drive towards the dramatic walls of Todra Gorge, where 300-metre limestone cliffs rise like cathedrals carved by water and time. You wander, small beside their vastness, and feel the coolness of the canyon settling on your skin.

Then the landscapes open, flatten, blush into soft apricot sands as you reach Merzouga. Camels wait patiently. The dunes of Erg Chebbi roll away like waves made of light. You ride slowly into them, watching the sun descend in molten orange. At your luxury desert camp, dinner is served beneath a canopy of stars. Drums echo across the dark, the air cools, and the quiet makes you question how often you’ve truly listened to silence.

Sahara to Ouarzazate: Gnawa Rhythm & Market Roads

Sunrise spills across the Sahara in a blaze of molten gold, drawing you gently out of sleep. After breakfast, you return by camel to the edge of the dunes, the cool morning air carrying the faint echo of drums from the night before.

Your journey continues to a community of traditional Gnawa musicians. Their rhythms ripple through the sand like a heartbeat — hypnotic, spiritual, and steeped in stories of migration and resilience. Later, the vibrant Rissani Market surrounds you with the scent of spices, the sweetness of dates and the lively barter of everyday life.

The Draa Valley accompanies you westward, a long ribbon of green threading its way through ochre cliffs and palm groves. Slowly the landscape shifts again, until Ouarzazate rises on the horizon with its stillness and cinematic charm.

At your kasbah-style hotel, the day softens into evening. Dinner is included tonight, offering a comforting pause after a day filled with movement, colour and rhythm — a moment to linger over desert flavours and let the stories of the Sahara settle.

Ouarzazate to Marrakech: Kasbah Legends & Mountain Roads

After breakfast, you step into the sun-baked lanes of Ait Ben Haddou, its earthen towers rising like a story carved from clay. This ancient ksar once welcomed caravans crossing the desert; now it holds echoes of dynasties, films and families who still live within its fortified walls. You wander through it all, sensing how many footsteps — and how many lives — have passed through here.

The road then draws you back across the High Atlas, the mountains shifting once again from deep ochre to soft green, from open valleys to tight, winding passes. Each turn feels like a final reminder of the landscapes you’ve travelled through — bold, dramatic, quietly humbling.

By early afternoon you return to Marrakech, where your desert adventure comes gently to an end. To enjoy the day at an unhurried pace, you will need to book an afternoon departure flight, allowing enough time for the return journey and any final moments in the city before you head to the airport.
