Unique Accommodation

The Not in the Guidebooks ‘Unique Accommodation’ range has been curated to offer you an experience outside of your normal four walls. They are characterful, often in sync with their surroundings, and aim to feature as one of the more memorable aspects of your experience, in tandem with whichever activity you have chosen to pair it with.

We offer a range of quirky styles of accommodation, if you are looking to go completely off-grid, or to experience sleeping in a luxury treehouse with wood-fired hot tub. We can give you the chance of digital detox at a private cottage in the forest, a yurt experience by the sea, or to take glamping to the next level in a pod with its own private hot tub.

No matter whether you’re on the hunt for an off-grid retreat in the UK, an authentic homestay in Vietnam, a luxury eco-retreat in Iceland, or simply an unusual place to stay, we are constantly looking to expand our range of unusual accommodation so that you can get off the beaten track and experience the world in a whole new light.

We can find you unusual places to stay in the UK, quirky accommodation for your next family staycations, and help you escape the crowds for a unique retreat that is sure to live long in the memory.

    What our travellers are saying...

    Private Walking Retreat in Cornwall

David is a friendly, gracious host with local connections! It was a delight not only to discover local hidden gems along the coastline and surrounding woods and fields, but to learn about what it’s like growing up in Cornwall. I was impressed by how readily he volunteered information about the area and how effortlessly conversation flowed. This experience was one of the highlights of my trip! And the views were INCREDIBLE.

    Unique Accommodation in Stunning Settings

At Not In The Guidebooks, we are constantly scouring the earth for unusual places to stay and unique examples of accommodation that help you truly get under the skin of a destination. The idea is that all our accommodation is either off the beaten track, allowing you to luxuriate in the knowledge that you have got far off the tourist trail so you can truly relax, sustainable, so that you can travel whilst having a minimal impact upon the earth, or is simply an unusual place to stay that shows you a unique side to a destination.

What sort of unique accommodation can I expect?

Here are just some of the unique, quirky accommodation options that we offer here at Not In The Guidebooks, to help you gain some inspiration for that next unforgettable trip to a quiet corner of the world. We search for unusual places to stay that have a character that is unique to their surroundings, whether it’s a rural farmhouse sitting comfortably in the countryside, or a treehouse suspended in a deep, quiet forest.

    Luxury Treehouse Experience

Sleep deep in the Welsh forests, suspended in the canopy in total isolation in a unique, beautifully designed treehouse to really help you unwind and recharge. Created by local artisans and designers, these unique structures are in the trees and help you reconnect with nature. Relax in a treetop hammock, light the log-burning stove, and soak in the wood-fired hot tub.

    Yurt Glamping Experience

Bring a sense of Central Asia to the UK by opting to sleep in a yurt. These circular structures are designed to get you as close to nature as possible, but in a unique and comfortable way with proper beds, wood-burning stove, and not four walls, but one circular wall.

Quirky Cottage Made of Reclaimed Wood

If staying on an estate and in a private cottage made of reclaimed wood appeals, then this is the experience for you. Relax in a cosy cottage in the woods and enjoy an evening outdoors in a wood-fired bath.

    Glamping Pods

Sleep in a pod in the heart of Shropshire with a private hot tub for you to relax in after a day walking and exploring. These pods combine the perfect mix of comfort and minimalist living to enable you to get closer to nature, yet in a quirky and comfortable manner.

What Makes NITGB Accommodation Unusual Places to Stay?

We pride ourselves on only sourcing accommodation that is a genuinely unusual place to stay, something out of the ordinary that you’ll remember for years to come when you look back on your holidays.

To ensure our quirky accommodation is genuinely unique, we will make sure we don’t promote your bog-standard flat or apartment. Our unique accommodation will either be located in a genuinely off the beaten track area, will combine a beautiful place to stay with activities unique to the local area, or simply be a genuinely unusual place to stay, whether it’s an outdoor wood-fired bath, a medieval dungeon dining area, a genuine Scottish castle, or a real-life working farm.

Our aim is to bring something unusual to our customers for them to stay in. As with our experiences, the idea is to provide a unique view of a well-travelled area, or take you to some of the most untouched parts of the world.
