Whale Watching and Reykjavik Food Walk

Whale Watching

Today starts with a wonderful whale watching cruise, starting from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík. After breakfast take a leisurely stroll down to the old harbour to join your boat and go in search of the wonderful whales living off the coast of Iceland. There is an abundance of these majestic creatures and there is always a good chance of multiple sightings. The most common of the sea mammals in the area are the Minke whale, White-beaked Dolphins and Harbour Porpoises and occasionally we see other species including the Humpback whales, Killer whales/Orcas and even Fin whales, but of course we can never guarantee sightings as these are free creatures and they swim at their own will. Your whale watching tour will end at the harbour, close to the meeting point for your next excursion, so we recommend that you take a short stroll, towards the meeting point. Hopefully your morning out at sea has given you an appetite!

Reykjavik Food Walk

Amazing food doesn’t just happen. Behind it are fascinating stories and age-old traditions. Join a small group as you take a relaxing walk around Reykjavik, led by a proud local food lover who is passionate about sharing Iceland’s incredible cuisines with fun, hungry and curious travellers!

In the tastiest sightseeing tour in Iceland, we explore downtown Reykjavik through delicious local cuisines that you would never come across on your own. We will stroll around the city and visit 5-6 wonderful local restaurants with a fun & knowledgeable guide by your side.

After your tour make your way back to the hotel, or stay out and sample Reykjavik’s happy hour!

Private Golden Circle by Super Jeep and Snowmobile

Today is a day for adventure! After breakfast  your private driver-guide for the day will pick you up at your hotel and assist you with your luggage, as today you will be leaving Reykjavík behind and heading into the countryside.

In the massive Super Jeep, you will embark on a journey exploring Iceland’s beautiful Golden Circle and snowmobiling across the eternally frozen plains of Langjökull glacier, a once in a life time experience!

Golden Circle by Super Jeep and Snowmobile

Our first stop is at Þingvellir National Park, one of Iceland’s most significant historical sites. It’s the home of the country’s first parliament which was founded in 930 A.D., its the oldest parliamentary institution in the world.

From Þingvellir, we head inland towards the highly active Geysir Hot Spring Area with it’s boiling mud pits and spouting hot springs. We then continue on to Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most powerful waterfalls. It is fed by Langjökull glacier and plummets 32 meters into a rugged canyon.

To top it all off we drive towards Langjökull glacier where we will dash across the snowfields on snowmobiles while gazing at the peaks and ice surrounding us.

The day will end at your new accommodation: Hotel Rangá 4*BB

Hotel Rangá is a luxury hotel which appears to be part hunting lodge, part deluxe log cabin. It receives accolades time after time not only for its elegant premium accommodation, amazing restaurant, wonderful outdoor hot tubs and awe inspiring views, but also for one of the warmest welcomes and friendliest atmospheres in Iceland. Þórsmörk (The Valley of Thor)

Today embark on another out of this world adventure!

Your Super jeep will collect you from the hotel for your small group adventure.

We are going to visit Þórsmörk, an incredibly beautiful nature reserve, situated in the heart of South Iceland nestled among three glaciers Eyjafjallajökull, Mýrdalsjökull and Tindfjallajökull.

Today you will have the chance to take one of the spectacular hiking routes and to venture off road in the super jeep over the laval landscape and crossing unbridged glacial rivers. This is the perfect tour to explore the wonders of Þórsmörk while experiencing an adventurous 4×4 Super Jeep drive!

On our hike we take in the astonishing view over Þórsmörk, Mýrdalsjökull glacier and the highlands. We will also hike up to Gígjökull glacier where we observe the effects of the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption and breathe in the purifying glacial air.

Þórsmörk is a spectacular place to visit, it has its own kind of feel to it. It is Icelandic nature to the core.

South Coast and Ice Cave

After breakfast you will be picked up at your hotel and drive to the most southerly town in Iceland, Vík. Here you meet up with your Katlatrack Ice Cave Guide and our adventure begins! We’ll climb into a super jeep and take an exhilarating ride through the private back roads of Vik to reach the glacier area, after fitting you with a helmet, headlamp and some crampons for your shoes, your guide will provide a full safety briefing before leading the  way to the cave. After a short (10-15 minute) walk across the glacier, you are  ready to enter the ice cave! This is another once in a lifetime experience – the caves are formed when meltwater creates a cavity in a glacier. In Iceland meltwater often appears when geothermal activity increases, so new ice caves can be formed and existing ones can change or even disappear from one season to the next.

No trip along Iceland’s southern coast is complete without stopping at at least one of the stunning waterfalls that can be found right off the side of the road. Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss are two of the most popular falls in Iceland. They are wonderful examples of the beauty and power of nature in Iceland. You will hear the thunderous roar of the water and feel the spray as you approach, on sunny days the mist frequently causes rainbows and even double rainbows.
