On your Aurora Winter Retreat in Luxury Ruka-Kuusamo, you step into a world where Arctic wilderness meets understated Nordic elegance.

From the moment you arrive in Ruka-Kuusamo, you are welcomed by your host and eased into five indulgent nights in this remote part of Lapland. Surrounded by snow-draped forest and crystalline air, you retreat into warmth, design and exceptional dining, with evenings unfolding over beautifully curated three-course menus inspired by the flavours of the North. With six days to immerse yourself, you don’t rush the Arctic — you live it, slowly and meaningfully.

You glide through silent woodland on a traditional reindeer sleigh, wrapped in blankets as hooves press softly into fresh snow. Enjoy a husky ride across snow covered trails, feeling the surge of energy beneath vast winter skies. Experience the thrill of a  snowmobile journey through pristine forest, pausing for a warming drink in the stillness.

As darkness settles, you follow the aurora wherever the skies are clearest, travelling into the night in search of nature’s most elusive spectacle. You stand beneath a canopy of stars as ribbons of green light begin to shimmer and dance overhead — an experience that feels intimate, rare and profoundly moving.

Should you wish to extend the adventure, why not venture into the dramatic landscapes of Oulanka National Park, walking beside the rushing rapids of Myllykoski, where firelight, snow-covered trees and raw Arctic beauty create moments that feel both powerful and deeply grounding.

Or spend a day skiing the pristine slopes of Ruka, gliding across perfectly groomed runs before retreating to warmth and fine food. Enjoy some time wandering around Ruka and experiencing the town like a local.

*Per person cost based on 2 adults staying in an Aurora Spa Room between 7th – 17th December & 9th January – 31st March

A full example itinerary is detailed below, activity timings can differ slightly, your own personal schedule will be given to you upon check in.

Arrival

On arrival in Ruka-Kuusamo Airport you are warmly welcomed by your host and transferred to your accommodation.

Settle into your accommodation, where snow-covered trees frame the view of this wonderful destination.

As evening falls, you enjoy a beautifully prepared three-course à la carte dinner, your first taste of the Head Chef’s Arctic-inspired cuisine.

Reindeer Farm and Sleigh Ride

Slow the pace and step into one of Lapland’s oldest traditions. At a small local reindeer farm, you’ll meet these gentle Arctic animals up close and hear how they remain central to life in the North. Your guide will share insights into herding traditions and the role reindeer continue to play in the region’s culture and livelihood.

Wrapped in warm blankets, you’ll then set off on a quiet sleigh ride through the snowy landscape. The soft rhythm of hooves on snow and the stillness of the forest create a calm, almost timeless moment — a simple yet authentic Arctic experience.

Aurora Hunting by Car

When the sky is ready to perform, you go where it leads. This guided Aurora hunting tour takes you beyond fixed viewpoints and into the wider Arctic landscape, travelling by car in search of clear skies and the strongest aurora activity.

Your guide tracks weather patterns and forecasts throughout the evening, adjusting the route to maximise your chances. You may find yourself parked beside a frozen lake, on a quiet forest road, or beneath a vast open sky — waiting as green ribbons begin to move overhead.

Photographs are included, so you can focus on the moment itself while your guide captures the lights above you. Flexible in length and driven by conditions, this is a Northern Lights experience shaped by nature and guided by expertise.

Husky Safari and Farm Visit

Feel the quiet power of a husky team as you set off across snowy trails, guided by eager dogs bred for the Arctic winter. Whether departing directly from the resort or travelling to a nearby husky farm, this experience brings you close to one of Lapland’s most iconic traditions.

After a safety briefing, you’ll head out on a sled ride of approximately 45 minutes, gliding through forests and open landscapes. The rhythm of paws on snow and the crisp winter air create a moment that feels both exhilarating and timeless.

Back at the farm, there is time to meet the dogs properly — to stroke their thick fur, learn about their training, daily life and the principles of responsible husky care. A warm drink is served as you hear more about the bond between musher and team, rounding off an authentic Arctic adventure.

Snowmobile Safari

Engine on. Snow beneath you. Forest stretching in every direction. This guided snowmobile safari is a classic Lapland experience, combining speed, scenery and the quiet drama of the Arctic landscape.

Riding two per snowmobile and led by an experienced guide, you’ll follow prepared trails through snow-laden forests and across open winter terrain. There’s time to pause along the way for a hot drink and snack, a moment to take in the stillness before setting off again.

For families, younger children travel safely in a sledge pulled by the guide’s snowmobile, wrapped in the Arctic air while adults take the controls. It’s a shared adventure — part adrenaline, part wilderness immersion — and entirely unforgettable.

Private Sauna

Step away from the pace of the day and into the quiet warmth of a traditional Finnish sauna. Tucked into the forest beside the restaurant, this private sauna offers a peaceful space to unwind, surrounded by snow-covered trees and Arctic stillness.

Designed for up to four people, each one-hour session is entirely your own. With carried water and no shower, the experience stays true to its rustic roots — simple, authentic and deeply relaxing.

Farewell to Lapland

Enjoy a final breakfast as you take in the serene surroundings one last time.

Refreshed, reconnected and full of winter memories, you depart knowing you’ve experienced Lapland in a way few ever do – personal, immersive and truly unforgettable.

With lift tickets included, spend the day skiing hand in hand across perfectly groomed runs, pausing to soak in the views or warming up with a drink at a gorgeous bar nestled right in the heart of the slopes.

Later, drift down into Ruka Village for a relaxed meal at a local restaurant, sharing stories from the day as the winter light fades. It’s an experience that captures the quiet thrill, Nordic elegance, and intimate moments.

Guided Tour to Oulanka National Park

Venture into one of Lapland’s most striking natural landscapes as you explore Myllykoski in Oulanka National Park. With your guide leading the way, follow forest trails to the rushing rapids, where wooden walkways and snow-covered trees frame the river in dramatic winter beauty.

Pause by a campfire beside the water to enjoy a hot drink and light snack, listening to the sound of the current cutting through the frozen surroundings.
