FAQs

When is the best time to travel to the Yucatán?

The Yucatán is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit is between November and April, when the weather is warm and dry. Bioluminescence is strongest during the new moon phase, so we recommend planning your visit around the lunar calendar if you'd like the most dramatic experience.

How physically demanding is this trip?

This itinerary is designed to be accessible to most travellers with a moderate level of fitness. Activities like kayaking and floating in the canals are guided, gentle, and paced for enjoyment rather than exertion. As long as you're comfortable with light walking, getting in and out of boats, and being active for short periods, you’ll be just fine.

Will I need to bring anything special?

We recommend bringing biodegradable sunscreen, beachwear, a reusable water bottle, and comfortable walking shoes. For the Sian Ka’an tour, a change of clothes and sun protection (hat, sunglasses) will come in handy. All specialist equipment for tours (like kayaks and life jackets) is provided.

How sustainable is this trip?

We work with locally owned hotels, tour providers and community-run cooperatives throughout the journey. From the Mayan-led Sian Ka’an excursion to hands-on culinary experiences, this trip supports responsible travel and helps preserve local traditions and natural ecosystems.

Which experiences are always shared?

The Holbox bioluminescence kayaking experience operates as a shared small-group excursion only due to local environmental regulations and operational logistics.
