Discover a different side of Lapland during the magical autumn season, when the forests glow with shades of gold, amber and crimson beneath increasingly dark Arctic skies.

This carefully balanced itinerary combines outdoor adventure, authentic local experiences and the comfort of a unique glass-roofed igloo. Away from the winter crowds, you will experience Lapland at a slower pace while enjoying some of the region’s most iconic activities.

Autumn is one of the best times to explore the wilderness on foot. The annual ruska season transforms the forests into a spectacular display of colour, creating a stunning backdrop for guided hikes through the Arctic landscape.

You will also meet two of Lapland’s most famous animals. Spend time at a traditional reindeer farm learning about local culture and reindeer husbandry, then experience the excitement of a husky safari aboard a wheeled cart as the dogs prepare for the coming winter season.

As darkness returns to the north after the long summer days, opportunities to witness the Northern Lights begin once again. Your included wilderness excursion takes you away from artificial light and into the heart of Lapland’s pristine natural environment in search of this remarkable phenomenon.

Please note: Whilst all the activities mentioned will be included in your trip, the order of the activities may vary and your personal itinerary will be given to you on arrival.

Arrival in Rovaniemi

Arrive in Rovaniemi and transfer to your premium glass-roofed igloo. After checking in, take time to settle into your surroundings and enjoy your first views of the Arctic landscape.

The remainder of the day is yours to relax and explore at your own pace. Enjoy dinner at the hotel and prepare for the adventures ahead.

As darkness falls, keep an eye on the skies above your glass roof – autumn marks the return of Northern Lights season in Lapland.

Northern Lights Wilderness Adventure

After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely day to relax, explore the local area or simply soak up the peaceful atmosphere of your Arctic surroundings.

As evening approaches, prepare for your Northern Lights wilderness adventure. Travelling away from artificial light, you will venture deep into the Lapland wilderness with an expert local guide in search of the Aurora Borealis.

Along the way, you may visit forests, lakesides and scenic viewpoints while learning about Arctic nature, wildlife and local traditions. You will also gather around a campfire, enjoy hot drinks and traditional snacks, and experience the tranquillity of the wilderness after dark.

Although sightings can never be guaranteed, the journey itself is a memorable introduction to the beauty of Lapland under the night sky.

Guided Hike and Reindeer Farm Experience

Today begins with a guided hike through the beautiful Lappish countryside. Autumn is one of the most rewarding seasons to explore Lapland on foot, as the forests display their famous ruska colours in shades of gold, copper and deep red.

Your guide will introduce you to the local environment, pointing out native plants, wildlife and seasonal changes while sharing stories about life in the Arctic. Along the route, you will stop to enjoy refreshments and a traditional Finnish campfire snack.

Later, continue to a traditional reindeer farm where you will meet one of Lapland’s most iconic animals. Learn about the role reindeer play in local culture and spend time with the herd while gaining insight into the traditions of reindeer husbandry that have shaped life in the north for generations.

Dinner is included this evening back at your accommodation.

Husky Safari on a Wheeled Cart

After breakfast, head out for an exciting husky adventure. While winter snow has yet to arrive, the eager dogs remain in training for the season ahead and pull specially designed wheeled carts through the forest trails.

Meet the huskies and learn about their lives, training routines and the strong bond between musher and dog team. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and hearing the excitement build before departure is all part of the experience.

Once aboard the cart, you will travel through the autumn landscape, enjoying a unique perspective of the surrounding forests. Following the ride, spend time with the dogs, take photographs and hear more about life at the kennel.

Return to your igloo for your final evening in Lapland and enjoy a farewell dinner beneath the Arctic sky.

Departure

Enjoy one final breakfast before checking out of your accommodation.

Take a last look across the forests of Lapland and savour your final moments beneath the glass roof before your transfer arrives.
