Sri Lanka's Tea Country is up there with some of the fascinating sights the country has to offer. It's lush, green plantations go much further than just looking spectacular as well, the Tea Country has formed a significant part of the country's cultural history.

On this Tea Country and Trains experience you’ll explore the tea capital of the country, and the stunning areas within it, in ways most won’t, from visiting and tasting tea at one of the local plantations in Nuwara Eliya, to hiking up Adam’s Peak with a local guide in Ella, to the truly unique experience of visiting the local village of Chena, which is surrounded by a forest reserve and is home to some of the most fascinating wildlife the country has to offer. You’ll stay in wonderful accommodations in great locations and be accompanied by a local guide to show you the best of the area.

Arrive in Nuwara Eliya

We will meet in Nuwara Eliya.

If you require transport to Nuwara Eliya , please let us know. This can be arranged at extra cost.

You’ll then head to a nearby tea plantation for a tour of the tea estates. Learn how a tea factory works, about its fascinating history, and taste some freshly brewed tea. In the evening you will check in at your hotel for the night, the splendid  Jetwing St Andrews. Once you’ve settled in, you will go for an evening frog walk, with a naturalist, to learn about all the amphibians which live in their natural habitat close to the hotel.

Train to Ella

Today you will hop on the blue train and take the stunning route from Nuwara Eliya to Ella. The route is spectacular with views of the surrounding valleys and hills, along with the many tunnels en route, it is a famous train journey, one of the most scenic in the world. From the train station you will be transferred to your hotel for the night, the elegant 98 Acres hotel. Once you have checked it’s time for your hike to the top of mini Adams Peak. The climb can be taken at your own pace and you will be rewarded along the way with amazing views, culminating in a stunning sunset view from the peak.

Your accommodation tonight will be at the 98 Acres Mountain resort, which as the name suggests, is housed in 98 acres of land in the chill country of Ella.

Village Explorations in Ella

Day 3 sees you embark on a truly unique experience to the traditional village of in Chena. This village is surrounded by a natural forest reserve, wild animals can be found roaming around the village, from elephants, peacock, to the Sri Lankan monkey – these are just a few. If that’s not enough wildlife for you, there’s also a gorgeous lake within the village that’s home to plenty of wild reptiles and birds. And with a local guide, you’ll go on a boat tour of this wondrous lake.

In the evening you’ll retire to your accommodation – Sir Johns Bungalow in Riverston

Nestled within Knuckles Mountain Range, Sir John’s Bungalow offers peaceful and comfortable accommodation with views of the landscaped gardens and beautiful countryside. All rooms have twin or double beds and  en suite bathrooms and there is a restaurant serving a delicious selection of local and western dishes.

You’ll check out of the hotel, and this is the end of your tour.

Your first night will be at the Jetwing St Andrews in Nuwara Eliya,  you will then take the famous train ride to Ella  and stay in the 98 Acres Boutique spa hotel , your third night is in Sir Johns Bungalow in Riverston in hill country.

Your tour ends in Riverston in the Knuckles mountain range.
