This trip shows you the very best of São Miguel island in just one day, from the stunning scenery and mountains of Sete Cidades, the majestic Fogo Lake, and the mind-blowing Caldeira Velha.
The day begins when you’re picked up by your guide in Ponta Delgada at around 9 am, then you are driven to the rim of the Sete Cidades caldera. Spend the entire morning feeling your jaw drop further and further as you pass blue-green lakes suspended between mountain ridges that plunge down to the gleaming Atlantic Ocean.
After lunch in a local restaurant, you’ll head to see one of the highlights of the Azores – Lagoa do Fogo. Suspended in the crater of a volcano, the lake is at the summit where you have views that extend over the whole island of São Miguel, from the north to the south, and is a must-see on any trip to the archipelago.
The drive continues to Caldeira Velha, an iron-rich waterfall that, thanks to the volcanic activity in the area, is warmed to perfect swimming temperatures. Slip into this natural spa, a deep lagoon immersed in lush forest and boasting beautifully tranquil atmosphere.
After this, your guide will take you back to Ponta Delgada in time for the late afternoon.
