What you'll do

Explore the lesser-visited side of São Miguel Island, benefiting from local guidance to discover the best trails, the most amazing viewpoints, and one of the seven wonders of Portugal - Sete Cidades.

You’ll be picked up at 10 am in Ponta Delgada, and taken by your guide to the western side of the island for an 11km (7 mile) long hike through the famous Sete Cidades region to the massive volcanic craters that crown the summit.

During the hike, you will have the opportunity to learn about the fauna, flora and history of the area, the volcanic formation of the island, and of course, you will hear the legendary love story behind the formation of the lake.

After the walk, you will drive along the south coast and stop in Ponta da Ferraria, a beautiful ocean bathing area where a volcanic fissure warms the salt seawater to perfect swimming temperatures. It’s a wonderful spot to unwind, relax and, if the tide is low and the waves are gentle, go for a refreshing dip.

Then, you will be dropped back off in Ponta Delgada at the end of the tour.
