Escape the city on a day tour from Porto to the magical Douro Valley, and enjoy a day of river cruises, wine tasting and pure indulgence as you explore lush vineyards and ancient, family-run wineries.
You will be picked up by your expert guide for the day, Ryan Opaz, from your hotel lobby, before heading out on this small group adventure to the green valleys and winding rivers inland from Porto.
The first stop will be at a winery that specialises in making exceptional red wines and port, both unique to the local area. You’ll be able to wander the sun-dappled vineyards, explore the beautiful old cellar, and of course, try some of the exquisite products produced there.
Your next stop will be lunch at a quaint local restaurant, which will feature iconic regional dishes such as olive oil, honey, sausages, and smoked and cured meats (enchidos). There are also plenty of options for the vegetarians, with local delicacies such as plump cherries, almonds and a vast array of greens to satisfy you.
It’s then time to relax on a river cruise that winds through the beautiful valley, before you enjoy another wonderful wine tasting at another local winery.
This specific vineyard is an incredibly charming and charismatic spot, run by a friendly host family who have helped the wines from the Douro region become renowned throughout the world.
Relax and enjoy the tranquility of the area, and when you’re ready your guide will take you back to Porto at the end of an unforgettable day.

Having spent over a decade touring and speaking about the lifeblood of Iberia, and Knighted by the Port Wine Brotherhood, Ryan is our designated "wine guy" for Portugal. Word to the wise, however, never ask him for his favorite, as he's bound to respond, "The one I've never tasted." His talents also extend to jaw-dropping photography, spectacular coffee roasting, tea tastings from far-off lands and mouth-watering cuisine. "Portugal has a wide range of fantastic wines, but few people know the value of their sparkling wines. Portugal's Espumante is absolutely worth exploring!"
