Visit a Mayan Community and Muyil Archaeological site
The journey today takes you to see a more authentic, lesser visited side of life among the Mayan people of the region. Make sure to pack all your belongings as you will check out of the hotel after breakfast.
We will journey south to a small village, where the local people have coordinated with one another to show visitors a glimpse into their lives. The experience will include a ritual agricultural ceremony, and introduce you to some of the fruits and seeds they grow in their fields.
The experience continues as one of the elders teaches you the technique for weaving “henequen”, a plant that grows in the region and that was once so valuable, it was known as “green gold”. To top the experience off, you will learn more about the “meliponas”, a variety of stingless honey bee. Learn from the local people about its relevance for the Mayas, and its importance even today as a key player in medicine, rituals, and gastronomy.
After a tasty lunch in the community, we will head back north to the glamping site where you have accommodation tonight. On the way there, we will visit the archaeological site of Muyil, a smaller yet very impressive and often overlooked Mayan site, steeped in the lush jungle of the area.
Included meals are buffet breakfast at the hotel (HM Playa del Carmen), and a traditional, authentic lunch during the Mayan community visit.
Accommodation tonight to be provided at Serenity Authentic Glamping , located in Xpu Ha beach. The glamping tents are located in the jungle, are well furnished, and have private bathrooms. The beach offers great opportunities for sunbathing, and swimming in crystal clear waters.
