Husky Safari, Snowmobile and Finnish Sauna
After a buffet breakfast at your accommodation, you will be picked up for your husky safari. First of all you will be given warm clothing (recommended as it can be very cold during the safari), and then your guide will drive you to a lovely local husky farm, around 30 minutes drive from Rovaniemi set amidst the magical snowy forests.
At the farm, you will be welcomed by the mushers and the excited barking of their lovely dogs. You will be introduced to your dog team and will be given the safety instructions and some tips how to drive the sleigh. Once ready, you will embark on your husky sled ride , two people per sleigh, dashing through the winter scenery for about 45 mins. You are always 2 adults maximum for the sleigh ride (one driving, and one passenger sitting in the sleigh) and you will have the opportunity to switch the driver and passenger halfway if you wish.
After the safari, the mushers will take time to share with you an insight into their life style, explain about the job of a musher, how they train their dogs and answer all your questions around an open fire. All the dogs are photo enthusiasts, so do not forget to bring your camera with you!
Your next adventure will be exploring the area on an adventurous ride over the snow and ice on a snowmobile. You can go at your own pace and enjoy the views through the forest, or out on a frozen lake. You’ll have a stop to warm up with berry juice and traditional biscuits before you set off again gliding over the crisp white snow. This is the very best way to get deep into the Lapland wilderness, and truly off the beaten track as you head away from the village and out into the vast fells, quiet woodlands and frozen lakes.
Finally this evening you will finish off the day with a romantic evening under the Northern Lights and an outdoor sauna experience, watching the aurora borealis overhead, in the freezing outside air and warming up in the traditional Finnish way.
Return to the hotel to relax after an amazing day of new experiences.
