What you'll do

This Ice-Fishing Trip will offer you a great chance to catch your breath in the silent immensity of Lapland nature while experiencing a traditional activity that many locals like to practice.

Our Ice-Fishing Trip will take you to some frozen lake located around 20 kilometres north of Rovaniemi, over the Arctic Circle. The destination will make you fully aware of the raw Arctic beauty and will give you the chance to enjoy it in silence. All the places that we choose for ice-fishing not only offer a good chance to catch something but are also meant to restore tranquility and peace of mind. Many locals still practice this activity during the winter to catch food for themselves or for their dogs, and to enjoy the relaxing serenity of Lapland nature.

After being picked up and given proper winter clothing/boots (it can be very cold on the lake!), your guide will drive you away from Rovaniemi to find the perfect peaceful place. You may have a short 5-10 minute walk through the old arctic forests before you finally reach that immense open area made of ice and snow. Once you have found a promising spot, your guide will show you how to drill your own hole in the ice, and will teach you the basic techniques how to ice-fish. Then, it is just a matter of time and patience before you can feel the first bites! This is the perfect moment to appreciate the silent wilderness spreading all around you.

Your guide will always be there to assist you, in case you need help or feel cold. Whilst you’re fishing, they will chop wood and prepare a fire on the shores for you. Some typical Finnish snacks and hot drinks will be served around the fire and will offer the perfect opportunity for your guide to answer all your questions about life in the Arctic and Lapland in general. If you manage to catch a fish your guide will happily prepare it, cook it straight over the fire and add it to the menu of the day! If the fish are undersized, we will quickly return them to the ice without unnecessarily harming them.

Your group will have a maximum of 8 people, as it it very important for us to provide you with the best experience as possible, and avoid mass tourism. This way, your guide will know you better and will be able to address all your needs and answer your questions.

Also, in relation to ice-fishing, keeping our groups small allows our guests to fully experience the peaceful silence of Lapland nature. As we say: the smaller the group, the bigger the experience!

After serving in the Royal Marine Commando's for 5 years and working as a professional sailing & outdoor instructor, I was looking for a place to fulfill my vision and dreams. I found it here in the Finnish Lapland, where I can share the natural phenomena, opportunities, and beauty this amazing place has to offer. Lapland is also a great place for me to raise my family. Local nature connects people as you can share beautiful moments with strangers in very peaceful environments. Winters here are long, and without doubt this is the hardest job I have ever done. But I love it and I can promise the warmest of welcomes and an amazing time!
