Yoga holidays in Side, Turkey – about your host and yoga teacher Jo Ozden
Slow down to the pace of Turkish life on this unique yoga holiday in the pretty town of Side, just one minute’s walk from the beautiful beaches and the Mediterranean Sea.
On this yoga retreat, you will be instructed by your host Jo Ozden for yoga lessons at this inspiring location. But what brought UK born Jo to Turkey and why yoga? Jo filled us in…
What is your background?
After losing my father at the age of 25 when he was just 50 years young, I went through years of suffering and became a workaholic and a victim of Rosacea for 13 years.
So 17 years ago I decided enough was enough and started to embrace myself and learnt how to live on my terms by my rules. I left the job I thought I loved after 18 years, and moved to Turkey to live a life I enjoy and doing a job I adore.
Dedicating time to myself helped me to heal and understand my suffering. The Rosacea began to fade along with chronic back pain, anger and my self-sabotaging way of life.
I have a passion for life and helping others that has come from my own life experiences and I draw from the profound effects breathing and movement has had on my body, mind and soul.
What type of yoga do you teach?
I specialize in breath-centred yoga.
What are your yoga classes like?
My classes focus on flowing creative sequences of gentle yet dynamic yoga. Practice starts with a gentle warm-up followed by standing and seated sequences, clearing the mind of unproductive thoughts and releasing any blockages in the body allowing the energy to flow. The classes finish with a relaxing guided meditation.
What qualifications do you have?
I am a certified yoga instructor with studies including Yoga Anatomy Principles Diploma with Leslie Kaminoff (9-month course), Yoga Anatomy with Leslie Kaminoff (3-day intensive course), Core Strength Vinyasa Yoga Diploma & Advanced Diploma with Sadie Nardini, Rock Star Teaching Diploma with Sadie Nardini.
What will learning with you be like?
You’ll learn to work from your ‘core’ centre to gain maximum benefits; having great detoxing and cleansing benefits to burn calories, build strength, flexibility, focus, self-awareness and confidence.
After just one week you will have all the tools and a great foundation to start your own home practice with confidence when you return home.
Here’s what returning guests had to say…
What a great holiday! This was my first yoga holiday and it definitely won’t be the last. The yoga classes were just what I wanted and needed. Jo is brilliant at catering for the group and individuals. She reads everyone so well. Great yoga, great way of meeting people and a great experience.
Had the most fantastic time. Arrived a very rusty, cranky and stiff beginner and left more relaxed and happier than I’ve felt in years. Jo is the most intuitive and supportive teacher and without her I would not have progressed as much as I did. The accommodation is comfortable, bright and a very relaxing place to be, the food makes you feel healthy on the inside as well the outside. I would recommend this holiday to anyone wanting to get some headspace and improve their physical and mental health.
