Gospel music can be traced back to the 17th century, characterised by powerful vocals, beautiful harmony and Christian lyrics. Gospel songs were composed for religious, ceremonial and aesthetic purposes and you will learn all about its historical and cultural significance on this tour.
You will adventure the streets of iconic Billie Holiday, Malcolm X, and Michael Jackson! View the famous sites of the Apollo Theatre, the Abyssinian Baptist Church, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Striver’s Row, Hotel Theresa and many more.
Last but not least, end your tour with an authentic and traditional African American gospel music performance. This will be held at a service in a local gospel church, allowing you to immerse yourself in the amazing music and culture.

Meet your guide at the front of the Schomburg Centre for Research in Black Culture located at 515 Malcolm X Blvd, New York, NY 10037.
You will explore iconic sites such as the Apollo Theater, the Abyssinian Baptist Church, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Striver’s Row and Hotel Theresa.
The tour end location depends on the church we visit on the day, it is usually a couple of blocks away from Adam Clayton Powell Jr State Office Building.
