My internship with GoLearnTo
With my final year at University looming and no idea what I wanted to do career wise upon completion of my degree, I hoped gaining a summer internship in an industry I was interested in would give me a greater understanding of the working world and allow me to explore what I would like to do in my future career.
After scrolling through many, monotonous job advertisements to find an internship that I was both interested in and one that would provide me with some invaluable experience – I finally stumbled upon GoLearnTo’ s advertisement and what a complete breath of fresh air it was! With a keen interest in marketing and the tourism industry, a passion for travel and a tea addiction, it seemed like the perfect internship for me (the office being a short walk from Camden doesn’t hurt either!)
Having read some of the previous interns’ blog posts, one thing that caught my attention was the prospect of the role having a variety of duties, and it certainly didn’t disappoint! When I arrived at the NotInTheGuideBooksoffice, I was given a warm welcome and responsibility from the onset. From writing blog posts, to updating the website, to dealing directly with customers and suppliers, the variety really enabled me to get a feel for what I enjoyed doing and identify my strengths. Most importantly, I was made to feel like a valued member of the team and really felt like I was actually contributing to the company rather than completing mundane tasks that no one else wanted to do. The close-knit team are extremely friendly and made me feel totally at ease, taking the time to explain every task I had to do.
I’m so glad that I’ve had the opportunity to work at GoLearnTo, I’m leaving with an array of new skills, confidence, and a greater understanding of how a successful small, growing business works. I’ve also gained a greater insight into the travel industry, which is a career option I’d definitely consider in the future. Now, I can go into my final year, with less final year blues and more of an excitement about what career path lies ahead, not to mention heaps of inspiration for my next holiday.
Many cups of tea and a few celebrity sightings later, I’m sad to be saying goodbye and would like to say a big thanks to Vanessa and the rest of the team for all their support and making the past 10 weeks so enjoyable. Its been great!
