Floating Markets & UNESCO Temple

Visit Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and on to Photharam area where we visit Wat Khanon

Take a ride on a rowboat to get a real sense of the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market we then go to visit Wat Khanon which is a temple that is well known for “Nang Yai” or Shadow Puppet show which is performed on the weekends.  It is regarded as a form of high class entertainment in former times.  It combines several art forms including artistic design, handicraft, theatrical art and orchestral music.  We will visit the temple and walk around the local Museum which is situated in a Thai traditional house.  You can see the entire set of 313 shadow figures representing characters from the epic story of Ramayana.

This programme helps to preserve the canal way of life at the most famous floating market in Thailand. It also supports one of the six model communities awarded by the Asia Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO for its active role in preserving an intangible cultural heritage

In the morning we were picked up from our hotel by a guide and a driver and taken to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. We had a private tour of the market and the surrounding neighbourhood by boat and then walked around tasting food and shopping. Our guide was very knowledgable about the area and helped us pick the best foods in the market!
