Visit Kitulgala and go river rafting and then head in to the mountains to the city of Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth. Stay overnight in Kandy.
This is an exciting two day adventure in to the mountains. Packing in river rafting and many cultural and natural places of interest.
We’ll pick you up early in the morning and drive inland to Kitulgala where you will enjoy a river rafting adventure. This is where the movie ” Bridge on the River Kwai’ was filmed in 1957. You can visit the location where the bridge was built and ultimately blown into the river with the locomotives. A thrilling way to soak up a bit of cinematic history.
We’ll then have a relaxed lunch in Kitulgala, before we head on to the mountains to explore the historical and world heritage city of Kandy. This was the last capital of Sri Lanka. The Temple of the Tooth was the former palace of the last king of Sri Lanka. Kandy has a very special cultural significance you will have the time to enjoy the ambiance and perhaps watch Sri Lankan traditional dancing and drumming performances.
You’ll stay overnight in Kandy. The next morning you’ll visit the botanical garden, where the first rubber tree was planted before being distributed to other parts of Asia and Africa. You’ll also be taken to a spice garden where we will talk through how the plants are grown and explain their medicinal as well as cooking uses!
En route back to your hotel you will visit a tea garden.
