What You'll Do

Take a journey through the vibrant markets that have been supplying this ancient city of stories for centuries, on an adventure through the best food and the best history Madrid has to offer.

If you love Spanish cuisine, this is the ultimate food tour for you. You’ll learn what the freshest seasonal ingredients are and which ones make up the secret bases of legendary Spanish dishes, all under the guidance of our professional culinary expert.

The 4.5-hour Gourmet Tapas Tour includes a local Gastronomic Dinner Experience & Cocktail SkyBar, where you will have the chance to see the historic markets of Mercado de San Miguel and La Cebada Market, located in the La Latina neighbourhood and learn about the vast differences between this two famous markets.

The tour begins at the historic, bustling market of Mercado de San Miguel, a beautiful structure that seems to float above the colourful food stands on elegant columns.

In recent years it has become Madrid’s benchmark gourmet market and has been acknowledged as a Site of Cultural Interest. It’s here that you will start to prepare your palate with gourmet bites carefully selected by your culinary expert from the wide variety of stalls.

Continue on your route to visit La Cebada, one of Madrid’s traditional markets, offering a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, meat and fish. Here, everyone from housekeepers to chefs at the most prestigious restaurants goes about their daily shopping, so that they can prepare their traditional Spanish cuisine later that evening.

On each market tour, you will stop at different stands to learn the first-hand knowledge from traders on how to select the best seasonal products. Of course, you’ll also be taking advantage of all this unbelievably fresh produce and local knowledge in the form of exquisite tasters from each stall.

You’ll continue the tour with a stop in the oldest restaurant in the world, Casa Botín. A truly unique restaurant, with a perpetually burning oven flame, world-class roast meat, and a beautiful brick interior, this place is steeped in history, and you’ll learn about all the famous patrons of this classic Madrid institution.

You will hop from tapas bar to tapas bar, enjoying 9 of Madrid’s most traditional tapas, and learning the true art of “tapeo”, so that you eat as the locals do.

The tasting includes croquettes, potato omelette, cod, Iberian ham, cheese and olive oil, all accompanied by beverages such as cider, red and white wines, beer or vermouth.

To make a complete culinary experience, you will end with a sweet touch, and a classic Madrid snack, in the classic churros bar – Chocolatería San Ginés.

And to finish this amazing experience in the best way, there is nothing better than our fantastic Sangria cocktail in one of the most exclusive Sky Bars, located off the beaten track, where you can relax and enjoy stunning panoramic views of the city as it settles into evening and bursts into life.

You can’t leave Madrid without a true tapas crawl, and this experience truly is the ultimate option.

When it comes to travel and favourite places, his philosophy is 'it’s not about the place, it’s about the experience'. Ignasi does have a few favourite places though... one being his hometown of Barcelona. He has fond memories of Barcelona and would encourage anyone who visits to get lost walking in the streets - definitely the best way to discover the city. His other favourite place is Sri Lanka, having visited recently and loving that parts of the island are still virgin to mass tourism. Ignasi and his fabulous team make sure to only offer tours in small groups so that everyone’s experience is more personal. They don’t use umbrellas or microphones but instead make sure that they get to know the guests and show them the way of the local - not just the main tourist attractions. They also strive to do things differently by using more exciting ways to explore like using premium electric bikes or even offering helicopter and hot air balloon rides. The team are experienced local advisors -not large corporate tour operators. They can't wait for you to experience their city with them from a local perspective!
