City Tour & Flamenco Workshop

What You'll Do

The best way to experience flamenco is to dance it... take the opportunity to learn from a professional flamenco dancer, who will also take you on an off-the-beaten-track tour of one of Madrid's most authentic neighbourhoods.

Flamenco is absolutely central to Spanish culture, and an essential art form to understand if you’re to truly get under the skin of this country with a rich and fascinating history.

Declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2010, Flamenco is a truly authentic expression of Spanish folklore, and a study in all things passion and emotion. Forget everything you think you know about Flamenco, as you deep dive into this immersive tour and study of the ‘gyspy equivalent of the blues’.

On this tour, we offer you the chance to live this unique art, starting with a walking tour that winds through the twisting alleys that make up the roots and the history of flamenco, in a neighbourhood most closely associated with the development of flamenco in Madrid.

You’ll uncover the stories behind flamenco’s introduction to the city, how it evolved, how it grew in popularity, all from an expert local guide, passionate about sharing this fascinating art form with you.

After the walking tour, you’ll throw yourself headlong into flamenco culture, starting out on an introductory flamenco class or, if you’ve already got some of the Spanish flair in your shoes, an improver class.

It’s important to point out here that you certainly don’t need to be a super-skilled flamenco dancer for this part of the tour. In fact, you could have two left feet, the point is to enjoy getting stuck in to traditional Spanish culture and get to grips in the most enjoyable way possible with a truly authentic tradition.

The class will be taught by a professional flamenco dancer from Fundación Casa Tapas. They will give us a master class and teach you the basics of this art, so that you can hit the streets with the best of the locals.

Together with our expert guide, learn about the history and traditions of the world of flamenco dancing.

Learn flamenco with a professional dancer and enjoy a sociable drink.

Experience our one-of-a-kind farewell.

Your Local Host:

Ignasi Zarzoso

When it comes to travel and favourite places, his philosophy is 'it’s not about the place, it’s about the experience'. Ignasi does have a few favourite places though... one being his hometown of Barcelona. He has fond memories of Barcelona and would encourage anyone who visits to get lost walking in the streets - definitely the best way to discover the city. His other favourite place is Sri Lanka, having visited recently and loving that parts of the island are still virgin to mass tourism. Ignasi and his fabulous team make sure to only offer tours in small groups so that everyone’s experience is more personal. They don’t use umbrellas or microphones but instead make sure that they get to know the guests and show them the way of the local - not just the main tourist attractions. They also strive to do things differently by using more exciting ways to explore like using premium electric bikes or even offering helicopter and hot air balloon rides. The team are experienced local advisors -not large corporate tour operators. They can't wait for you to experience their city with them from a local perspective!
