Experience Itinerary


– Arrive at the airport to be greeted by your host and driven to the Finca
– Around 8pm, the group meets to enjoy drinks and dinner together and a chance to chat about your level of experience with your tutor

– Unspoilt and peaceful, this rural ‘off the grid’ Finca is surrounded by outstanding views, wild flowers, olive trees and wildlife from vultures to exotic birds
– Set a mile down a long track, this is pure rural Spain, unspoilt, ‘off-grid’, relaxing and at one with nature and a great setting to inspire your painting
– Traditionally built this Finca is set in a walled 3 acre olive grove, tucked away in a varied landscape of olives, figs, grapes and pasture and cork and holm oak trees provide shade to paint or relax
– The two twin/double rooms are traditionally furnished and windows have internal shutters and tiled floor and both rooms have an en-suite bathroom
– The house has terraces and covered areas, perfect for keeping out of the direct sunlight and painting or drawing to your heart’s content
– There is a table and chairs for eating, as well as a sofa and hammocks to relax enjoying the views or watching the moon rise over the Sierra
– At the back of the house is a small patio with a table and chairs, to enjoy sun and shade at different times of the day
– Solar panels provide electricity powering an A++ energy efficient larder fridge, lighting, fans, washing machine (cold wash)
– There is no air conditioning but the rooms have fans and walls are thick to keep the house cool in the summer
– The house has a radio and CD player for guest’s use in the communal lounge and dining area
– There is no TV or internet,  however there are mobile phone signals and local bars have WiFi
– Some guests stay at one of the country Fincas or hotels chosen in the area, guests are collected after breakfast and return after dinner

Observational drawing

– You start the day after breakfast and coffee or tea, with a tutored workshop focused on observational drawing in the studio and later in the landscape
– Noelle has taught life drawing and observational drawing for more than twenty years and developed a way to help you to look more carefully and draw what you see more accurately
– Today forms a good basis for the week, however you choose to sketch or paint
– After lunch there is time to relax, walk and sketch or paint on the studio terrace
– Around 6pm for an hour and a half, there’s more tutored session drawing before dinner at 8pm with drinks

Painting the landscape

– Your second day starts around 10am after breakfast with a tutored workshop exploring different approaches and media followed by painting or drawing directly from the landscape with your media of choice – either painting en plein air or sketching and later working from your sketches in the finca studio
– Lunch is around 2pm and there’s free time after to relax or continue working before a tutored session at 6pm focusing on creative work
– Dinner will be taken at the Finca around 8pm with drinks and a discussion with the tutor

Cultural tour of Trujillo

– After breakfast you will take off for a guided cultural tour of this historic town with time to sketch
– Lunch is usually tapas and taken out at a local restaurant
– The afternoon is free to explore before heading back to the Finca for dinner at 8pm (note: transport is provided)

Painting and optional walk

– Following breakfast there is the option to paint at the Finca or walk and sketch
– The walk is chosen to suit the group ranging from 3-8km taking a packed lunch to explore the local area, flora, fauna and wildlife
– Around 6pm, there is the chance to visit Montanchez before dinner and drinks

Final touches

– Today is your last day of painting and sketching so you’ll round up what you’ve learnt during the week and ‘brush up’ with tips and tuition from Noelle in today’s workshop
– Enjoy your last lunch at the Finca and take in the beautiful surroundings again
– In the evening you will enjoy a finale farewell dinner at the house from 6pm, where everyone can discuss or show their favourite work from the week if they wish


– After an 8.30am breakfast and depending on flight times, the group will be transferred back to the airport for your journey home
– You will return home with fantastic paintings and drawings, enhanced skills and techniques along with memories and flavours of an area of Spain rich in every way

A very enjoyable holiday: excellent tuition, comfortable en suite accommodation and glorious scenery with abundance of wild flowers. There was no need to travel further than the terrace to paint. Delicious home cooked food too. I highly recommend it.

We had an excellent weeks drawing and painting. Noelle tailors her tuition to those on the course. The finca is set in a beautiful area of Spain, its very peaceful. The food, drink and conversation were also perfect.

On this ‘Landscape’ painting holiday, you will stay in a beautiful ‘off-grid’ rural Finca set among olive and fig groves in the heart of rural Spain; just ..

  • 7 nights accommodation in a twin/double room with private bathroom
  • Morning and evening painting and sketching sessions
  • Morning sessions are typically from 10am to 2pm and evening sessions are typically from 6pm to 7.30pm
  • All transport to the local towns/villages for painting
  • Some painting and sketching materials (a materials list will be provided)
  • All breakfasts, dinners and lunches (except lunch on one day) are included with drinks (including local wine for dinner)
  • Breakfast is served at around 8.30am, lunch at 2pm and dinner around 8.30pm
  • Check in anytime after 7pm on day 1 and check-out by 10am on day 8
  • Return airport transfers (arrival transfers leave the airport at 15:00-17:30 / departure transfer arrives at the airport at 14:00 – please check which airport serves your chosen date)
