You have two options when you hike or climb Table Mountain, the easy way, and then well, the way that will make you feel like you’ve earned it! That’s right, you and I are going to climb this bad boy, standing at just over 1000 meters, and every now and again wave at the cable cars passing overhead!
All roads lead to Rome so they say, and the same can be said about Table Mountain. There are many trails for you to choose from, approaching the summit from any number of directions spread across the Table Mountain National Park area. So you can tailor your adventure to suit your fitness level and time constraints.
Hike Table Mountain – What you will experience on route?
Whichever route you choose, you can expect breath-taking views over the city of Cape Town, Clifton, Camps Bay, Lion’s Head, and Devil’s Peak. You will also experience the magnificent southerly view along the coastal plain and the Twelve Apostles peaks towards Llandudno and Hout Bay.
On your Table Mountain adventure, you will see cascading waterfalls, hidden secret caves. You may even get close and personal with the famous Table Mountain Dassie which, believe it or not, and despite the enormous difference in size between the two, is the closest living relative to the African Elephant.
The Table Mountain National Park is part of the Cape Floristic Region World Heritage Site. As such you will also see some unusual and endangered plants along the way. The unique flora in the region is known as Fynbos (fine bush) and, depending on the time of year that you visit, you may see wild Proteas in bloom. The Cape Protea is probably the most famous of the Fynbos vegetation and unique to this part of the world.
A few other sights you will see along the way include the eerie Tranquillity Cracks, Woody’s Ravine or even for the extreme, the infamous “chimney”. Curious about who’s Woody? Well, let’s go find out!
