What You'll Do

Head out with your expert local driver/ guide, Ian, on your own privately chartered safari in the majestic Scottish Highlands to spot Scotland's 'Big Five', on stunning cruises and in secret hides where you feel truly immersed in the nature, wildlife and breathtaking scenery.

Scotland’s Big Five of the Golden Eagle, Red Deer, Red Squirrel, Otter and Harbour Seal can all be found within 25 miles of Fort William. On this safari, it’s possible to see them all on the same day !

The trip includes a 2-hour cruise on Loch Shiel, taking you into the heart of some of Scotland’s wildest country.

Leaving Fort William at 08.45, we travel along Loch Eil to Glenfinnan. Here you will join your skipper, Jim, on a one-way cruise to Acharacle at the south end of the loch.

You’ll be looking out for Golden Eagles, Red Deer, Sea Eagles, Hen Harriers and Black-throated Divers, amongst other beautiful wildlife. And what Jim doesn’t know about the history of the area hasn’t yet been written!

At Acharacle, on the edge of the Ardnamurchan peninsula, you’ll be met again by Ian, your driver/guide for the next part of your adventure. From there we’ll wind our way along Loch Sunart, visiting the Garbh Eilean wildlife hide.

Here we hope to find Seals hauled out on the rocks, Herons, Mergansers, Terns and Otters. From the hide, we will enjoy a leisurely picnic lunch whilst enjoying the abundant wildlife. If time permits we’ll detour round by Kingairloch looking for golden eagle, red deer, hen harriers, and feral goats.

Crossing the Corran by ferry we’ll be looking out for the Black Guillemots that nest on the old jetty, and perhaps Porpoises before making our final stop of the day at Inchree forest, where the forestry commission has set up feeders and a screen to watch the final member of the Big Five, the Red Squirrel.

Finally, it’ll be back to Fort William for tea after an incredible day out spotting and photographing the UK’s most majestic wildlife and soaking up the stunning scenery. Please note that

Please note: The cost of the cruise element of this trip, £25.00 per adult and £12.50 per child, is not included. The operator will collect that payment prior to the trip.

We booked a very last minute private tour with Ian for first thing on a Saturday morning. Ian is a lovely guy: very friendly, and very informative on many subjects: local history, wildlife, Munro bagging and photography (among others)! We saw lots of deer close by the road side and went to some glens (up to Loch Quoich) which we would not necessarily have seen on our own. He provided binoculars and scope (all sanitised). A really nice way to spend a morning after a couple of strenuous days’ hiking.

I booked the tour few weeks before our Xmas holidays in Fort William with my dad and two children age 11 and 14. Booking couldn’t be easier. We were picked up from our lodge on Boxing Day and spent amazing 4 hours in most beautiful scenery spotting wildlife. We were lucky to see a deer, otter, grey seal, plenty of herons and my favourite, oystercatcher. Kids loved all the stories and plenty of informative facts. Scenery was outstanding and I’d not be able to find all of these beautiful spots myself. We ended our trip on the beautiful white beach with coffee and shortbread, courtesy of Ian. Would definitely come back!
