Eat your way around the Old and New Towns of one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, as you join a local guide who is passionate about both the fascinating history of the Scottish capital, as well as its thriving culinary scene.
The food walking tour takes in both the Old and New Town of Edinburgh, giving you the chance to see and eat in the historical area of Edinburgh but also visit bars and restaurants in the New Town. The New Town was built in late 18th early 19th Century and is, generally, where locals go to eat and drink.
Some of the food you might taste on this tour includes Scottish Smoked Salmon, seafood, Black Pudding, Scottish cheeses, charcuterie and desserts, to give you a real insight into some classic Scottish dishes.
There will also be the chance to taste the absolute staples of haggis, neeps & tatties. Drinks may include Scottish cider, beer and gin, and no Scottish culinary tour would be complete without a single cask malt whisky.
All food served are tasting plates, but it is still best to skip lunch before an afternoon tour, or dinner if you’re taking an evening tour.

Originally from Stirling, I moved to Edinburgh in the late 70’s to study Hotel Management, and I have worked mostly in Glasgow and Edinburgh in Hotel catering ever since. I started our food tours in 2011, and the Edinburgh food tours started to take off almost immediately.
After a holiday in 2009 in Seattle, USA, where I enjoyed my first food tour, I came back enthusing how Edinburgh would be a great place for a similar tour. As I was happy in my job, I gave it no further thought. But in 2011 I was laid off from my work after 20 years service. I decided to make the most of this opportunity and set up an Edinburgh food tours.
Meet your guide at the Grassmarket, then set off on the Old Town section of the food tour, which walks through the Grassmarket, Victoria Street, the Lawnmarket (on the Royal Mile) and Makars Court.
Then, the New Town section goes down the Mound, past Princes St Gardens, onto George Street, Queen Street and around Charlotte Square, before finishing at the West End of Princes street.
