Ancient Portuguese Jewellery Workshop

Summary

Portuguese Filigree is an ancient gold smithing craft, dating back to the 17th century, that has been passed down from generation to generation. This handicraft technique consists of creating very thin wires of gold or silver, twisted and flattened, applied through a gentle work of detail and patience, all manual laboured.

And it's exactly what you'll learn about and experience during this filigree workshop. Accompanied with a local guide, you'll travel to one of the local workshops and meet one of the craftsmen, who'll teach you the authentic ways of the trade.

With the private pick-up at your stay, travel towards Gondomar (Porto surroundings) to have the opportunity to learn and experience some ancestral techniques in a filigree workshop. The itinerary includes a visit to a traditional workshop where the craftsmen will explain the entire production process and you can buy directly at the best price true works of art. The visit will end at the historical house “Casa Branca do Gramido” a place that witnessed the signature of the peace treaty for the “Patuleia Civil War” back in the 19th century, and where you can take a look at the exhibition “Alchemy of Filigree” and taste some of our local delicacies overlooking the Douro River.
