What You'll Do

This 7 night / 8 day photography holiday is set in the heart of Tuscan countryside in the medieval town of Barga, near Lucca; explore and take inspiration from winding streets, churches and the local culture of this stunning Tuscan valley, your photography possibilities will be endless.

Your base for this unique Tuscan photography workshop will be the stunning photogenic medieval town of Barga. The town sits proud in the Serchio valley and offers panoramic views in all directions, while its medieval network of tight narrow streets, flanked by ancient architecture, presents photographers with no end of opportunities.

Whether you have a preference for landscapes, culture, history, food or people, all are abundant to the area and will provide you with perfect subjects for your art on this 7 night / 8 day photography holiday.

As well as learning the fundamentals of photography, this photography holiday is a real opportunity to develop your creative instincts and to absorb the captivating Italian landscape; a chance to take beautiful images and express your individual approach and style to the inspirational surroundings and colourful culture. Regardless of your experience, you’ll leave with new skills and understanding for the beginner, and even the most professional photographer will find new inspiration to shoot throughout the week.

During this memorable photography holiday your tutors, Martin and Tom, will be with you to organise every element of your holiday and offer you hands-on tuition and workshops throughout. They will always be there to help you better your craft and take you to all of the best sites, as well as beloved cafes and restaurants in the area.

Accommodation is at a local guesthouse, a mere 5 minutes from Barga by car. Each spacious room has an ensuite bathroom, television, WiFi and an outdoor terrace for you to enjoy your evenings on. The B&B has outstanding views of the surrounding countryside and stunning mountains. Have a wander down the country road and try some of the local wines and explore the relaxed rural town.

Your Local Host:

Martin

Martin has been taking photographs since he was 14 years of age. He used rolls of film at first then progressed onto shooting and developing his own slides, following a photography college course, he was hooked for life! Martin is joined by fellow photographer Tom, who has a career spanning 30 years working as a photographer on Scotland’s top newspaper titles.

Experience Itinerary

Arrival

– Arrive, settle in and enjoy a Tuscan dinner.

Accommodation

– You will have your own room with a private bathroom for 5 nights
– The accommodation is located 5 minutes from the town of Barga
– The rooms are spacious and some have a magnificent view overlooking the Apuan Mountains
– There is a restaurant and wine bar on site
– There is 1 double room with an ensuite bathroom & 4 single rooms with ensuite bathrooms
– Check in anytime after 12pm on day 1 and check out by 11am
– Please note: if necessary, you may be placed in an alternative hotel in Barga of the same standard due to numbers

Photography

– 9-11am: Meet up for breakfast and discuss where and what you’ll shoot for the day, discuss what your goals will be for the day with some photography instruction before setting off
– 11am: Photo shoot (either nature, medieval towns, people, landscape, etc)
– 1pm: Lunch at a local cafe
– 2-6pm: Free time to explore and shoot
– 7pm: Meet and discuss the day’s work or simply take some time to relax before dinner
– 8:30pm: Take the evening to go for a stroll, enjoy the local wines, sample the regional cuisine alone or with the group or perhaps it will be a good evening for a night shoot

Departure

– Your host will return you to Pisa airport for your departing flight

- Suitable for all photography levels from beginners to advanced
- Minimum age 18 with no upper age limit
- The course is mainly focused on digital photography
- If you would like advice on which DSLR camera to buy before your holiday, your tutor will be happy to advise once the holiday has been confirmed
- There is also some equipment available to borrow (depending on availability)

- Arrival days are on Sunday and run twice a year in spring and autumn
- Photography holidays are for 5 nights/6 days
- If you wish to stay for extra nights, please email to check availability for your preferred duration and we will do our best to accommodate you

- There is a wine bar which always has lovely affordable local wines available for tasting and purchase right in the villa, along with cured meats, cheeses and other nibbles (be prepared - the owner loves to sing!)
